Our Learning Journey

A New Beginning

To start with the students took time to familiarize with the routines and procedures in the class by forming Essential Agreements. They went through a goal setting exercise during which they set short term goals for themselves. The students also articulated the Learner Profile. Last but not the least they made some new friends and shared the experiences they had during their vacation.

Mathematics

We started off with a revision of concepts completed in Grade 1. The concepts of Place Value, Number Names for 3-digit numbers, Ordering and comparing of numbers and Rounding Off of 2-digit numbers to the nearest 10 were taken forward.

We  went on to learning of the arrangement of words in alphabetical order which led to the introduction of Dictionary. Rhyming words were also introduced, leading to children writing couplets and short rhyming poems.

Literacy Week
(9th September to 13th September)

'Celebrating Authors' was the theme for Literacy Week this year. Students conducted a lot of research on Dr.Seuss and his writing style. They donned their creative hats and became authors in order to write a short story of their own.

Tuning In

Students were given inanimate objects to compare with human body. This led to the introduction to Central Idea - Human Body. Through this task they also utilized their skill of comparing and working with a Venn diagram!

Prior Knowledge Assessment

Students wrote what they knew about the Human body on a post-it through the “Lightning Writing” strategy. Thereafter “Chatterbox” – a pairing activity was used to give students a chance to ask their partner three things that they want to know about the Human Body. They also wrote the three things they already knew about.

Tuning In

First Line of Inquiry – Our Body Systems

Students were given Jigsaw puzzles of different body systems to be solved. This was followed by a video, “A Journey into the Human Body”

Research, Research and more Research!!!

The students conducted exhaustive research through reference books and Internet.
