A New Beginning
To start with the students
took time to familiarize with the routines and procedures in the class by
forming Essential Agreements. They went through a goal setting exercise during
which they set short term goals for themselves. The students also articulated
the Learner Profile. Last but not the least they made some new friends and
shared the experiences they had during their vacation.
Mathematics
We started off with a
revision of concepts completed in Grade 1. The concepts of Place Value, Number
Names for 3-digit numbers, Ordering and comparing of numbers and Rounding Off
of 2-digit numbers to the nearest 10 were taken forward.

The students were introduced to
Tally Marks, Frequency Table and Bar Graph. They also enjoyed conducting a
survey about the various choices of their friends and created the Frequency
Table.

English
We started off with revision of
vowels and consonants. The students also read and attempted comprehension
tasks. We went on to learning of the arrangement of words in alphabetical
order which led to the introduction of Dictionary. Rhyming words were also introduced,
leading to children writing couplets and short rhyming poems.

'Celebrating Authors' was the
theme for Literacy Week this year. Students conducted a lot of research on
Dr.Seuss and his writing style. They donned their creative hats and became authors
in order to write a short story of their own.

Nouns - Common Nouns and Proper Nouns
Tuning in for Proper Nouns was done through a “Gallery Walk”.
Students were introduced to Proper Nouns and Common Nouns.

Prior Knowledge Assessment
Students wrote what they knew
about the Human body on a post-it through the “Lightning Writing” strategy.
Thereafter “Chatterbox” – a pairing activity was used to give students a chance
to ask their partner three things that they want to know about the Human Body.
They also wrote the three things they already knew about.

Students were given Jigsaw puzzles of different body systems to
be solved. This was followed by a video, “A Journey into the Human Body”

Second Line of Inquiry – Functions of Body Systems
The
first system discussed was “Digestive System”, where students were asked to eat
a slice of apple and trace its path.
The students enjoyed
learning about Muscular, Skeletal, Respiratory, Nervous and Circulatory System
in different interesting ways; by fixing the skeletal cut-outs together,
jogging on the spot and breathing exercises, thinking about their favorite
activity and the command brain gives them at that time.

The
students conducted exhaustive research through reference books and Internet.
